Representatives Address CAG Group

Representatives from Michael Baker Jr., Inc., the environmental consulting firm working for the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH), addressed members of the Corridor H Community Advisory Group (HCAG) on August 14, 2000 to update them on the progress of the Corridor H project in their area.

Mindy Hamilton and Claudette Jenkins explained that Michael Baker Jr., Inc. is currently in the process of developing the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (DSEIS) that requires survey and study of the area directly surrounding the proposed construction site. Hamilton illustrated how they were conducting a review of the area to identify any endangered species in the area, namely the Indiana Bat. Also, Jenkins described the wetlands survey they are performing to help determine the impact that the project could have on the immediate surroundings.

Earlier this month, the HCAG submitted their comments and recommendations to the WVDOH in response to the public scoping meeting held at the Canaan Valley Resort on June 14th. The group will continue to meet up to the completion of the DSEIS in order to discuss additional alignment issues. Assistant to the State Highway Engineer Michael Miano attended the meeting and said, "The CAG is meeting to gather additional information to help the WVDOH select the best possible alignment for eastern West Virginia."

The group then asked Miano to update them on the status of the Davis to Bismarck section of Corridor H and to provide traffic counts for the entire area to aid in the determination of the best location to recommend a Visitor's Center for Davis/Thomas. Miano agreed to provide this information to the group before the next meeting.

The next meeting of the CAG is scheduled for August 29, 2000 at 5:00 p.m.
