WVDOH Announces Approval of Corridor H SDEIS
Charleston, W. Va. Representatives from the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) today announced the Federal Highways Administration (FHWA) approved the Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement (SDEIS) for the Kerens to Parsons section of Corridor H.
According to Highways Commissioner Fred VanKirk, a workshop public hearing has been scheduled for the public to review the approved document.
"As a result of the February 2000 Settlement Agreement, we have developed additional alternatives to avoid the Corricks Ford Battlefield in Tucker County," VanKirk said. "These alternatives have been studied and were incorporated into the Battlefield Avoidance Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement that has been approved by FHWA. As part of the Division of Highways' public involvement process, a workshop public hearing is scheduled to address residents' concerns."
According to VanKirk, the workshop public hearing is scheduled October 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the cafeteria of the Tucker Valley Elementary/Middle School at 100 Crest Avenue in Hambleton. Representatives from the West Virginia Division of Highways and Michael Baker Jr., Inc., the consulting firm for Corridor H, will be available to discuss the alternatives and address questions and comments.
VanKirk explained the approved SDEIS is available for the public to review at the Division of Highways' offices in Charleston and Elkins, in the county clerks' offices in Randolph and Tucker counties, in the Region Seven Planning and Development Council's office in Buckhannon and in the mayors' offices and post offices in Elkins and Parsons. Copies may also be obtained by writing to Jim Sothen, P.E., Director, Engineering Division, Division of Highways, Capitol Complex Building 5, 1900 Kanawha Boulevard East, Charleston, WV 25305-0430. Comments must be received on or before December 7, 2001.
