Charleston, W. Va. – The West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) today announced a contract was awarded to Kanawha Stone Company, Inc., to construct a portion of the Wardensville to Baker section of Corridor H.

The Nitro firm bid $25,019,472 to construct this 1.45-mile section that begins at the Baker interchange and extends to the west side of Bridge 4273 over Lost River in Hardy County.

"In addition to this contract, the third to be let on the Wardensville to Baker section of Corridor H, Kanawha Stone Company was also awarded the first contract which was let in October," State Highway Engineer Joe Deneault said.

"These contracts are adjoining projects. The first contract requires borrow embankment material and this second contract has a surplus of borrow material. Kanawha Stone Company has indicated that the joint construction of these two projects will allow them to use surplus material from their second project to provide borrow material for the first, reducing the need to develop waste and borrow areas on these projects."

Deneault continued, "Beginning construction on another section of Corridor H allows us to continue moving toward completion of the highway."
