WVDOH Gets Endorsement for Section of Corridor H

The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) informed the West Virginia Division of Highways that it has made a determination of the effects of an alternative alignment of Corridor H near Moorefield on historic properties.

Sam Beverage, Acting Secretary for the Department of Transportation, explained that there are two historic landmarks in close proximity to the alignment for the road, the Meadows and the P.W. Inkeep House. Both the West Virginia State Historic Preservation Officer and the ACHP found that, because there will be sufficient distance between the construction and the existing structures, there would be no adverse effects to the Meadows or the P.W. Inkeep House or any other feature in the Historic District.

"The ACHP made a determination of the impact that this road would have on the Middle South Branch Valley Rural Historic District," said Secretary Beverage. "Prior to the ACHP's determination, the West Virginia State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) conducted careful examinations as well. The SHPO made a determination that there would be no adverse effect to the Historic District or to these two properties by the construction of Corridor H. We are thrilled that the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation came to the same conclusion. We are excited to see that another step can be taken to complete this much needed highway."
