Frequently Asked Questions

What is the timeline for progress and completion of Corridor H?
The WVDOH awarded nearly 25 miles of construction projects for work between Moorefield and Wardensville. All 20 miles are scheduled to be open to traffic by fall/winter 2005. Final design work is underway for 43.5 miles between Davis and Moorefield, with construction contract plans ready by summer/fall 2006. The timeframe for construction depends upon the availability of funding necessary for construction. This work will go to contract as soon as funding is available. The 6.8-mile section between Wardensville and the Virginia state line has a timeframe that depends upon certain conditions being achieved. No final work can begin in this section for 20 years unless one of the following takes place:

  • VDOT decides to upgrade Va. 55 to four lanes
  • The level of service for WV 55 in West Virginia deteriorates to an unacceptable level of service
  • Congress provides funding for the completion of the Appalachian Corridor System that must be spent by a certain date.

How will Corridor H directly effect the natural beauty of West Virginia, for example, Seneca Rocks, Blackwater Falls, and our scenic caves?
Corridor H will not be constructed near Seneca Rocks or any cave system. Corridor H will pass near Thomas and Davis, but will not affect the Blackwater Falls State Park. WVDOH, State and Federal Resources agencies have coordinated to ensure that Corridor H can be constructed in such a manner as to avoid and minimize impacts to scenic areas.
