WVDOH Awards Corridor H Contract
The West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) awarded a contract to Kanawha Stone Company, Inc. March 4 to construct a portion of the Wardensville to Baker section of Corridor H.
The Nitro firm bid $15,858,045 to construct this 1.08-mile section that begins near the Lost River Sinks and extends to County Route 23/12 (Trout Run Cut-off Road).
"We are pleased to award this Hardy County contract," State Highway Engineer Joe Deneault said. "This is the easternmost contract we have awarded and the first to reach the area of the George Washington National Forest."
Deneault explained that the contract includes landscaping for the historic Hott House, as part of WVDOH construction mitigation. The contract also includes a connection to existing WV 55 and for grading involving 4.3 million cubic yards of earthwork, drainage, paving, signing and pavement marking.
"Construction for this section is expected to be competed by Fall 2003," Deneault said. "Awarding this contract takes us one step closer to completing Corridor H."
