Allegheny Highlands Trail Officially Opens November 4
Whether a seasoned cyclist or a just out for a leisurely stroll, the Allegheny Highland Trail is right for everyone. The 20-mile trek is designed to offer everyone the enjoyment of experiencing the wonderful outdoors of West Virginia.
On November 4 the Highlands Trail Foundation held an official grand opening bike ride and celebration for the new trail. Nearly 20 members and friends of the Highland Trail Foundation came out for the beautiful ride. Riders began at both ends of the trail and met in the middle for a small celebration.
Directly in the middle of the trail is a kiosk where riders can take a break and visit with other riders, stop for a picnic lunch or just enjoy the view.
This exciting new trail is just another beautiful example of the Rails To Trails effort in West Virginia. The Allegheny Highlands Trail is an especially scenic route for visitors to the Elkins area.
