Moving On With Corridor H
Governor Speaks at On-Site Press Conference
Governor Underwood and state officials joined Corridor H supporters in a celebration on April 3 in Elkins honoring the move to continue construction on the 100-mile project.

Governor Underwood, State Highway Commissioner Sam Beverage and Chairman of the Corridor H Committee Bill Hartman addressed media and Corridor H proponents at the on-site news conference.

"The courts have affirmed it," Governor Underwood said. "Our agreement with Corridor H opponents confirmed it, and as long as I am your governor, I shall fight for it. We shall complete Corridor H as a four-lane highway."

At the conference, the Governor also announced that the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) is ready to advertise for bids for construction on two projects between Baker and Moorefield. The WVDOH has been working on an amended Record of Decision for this section, which was approved April 3 by the Federal Highway Administration.

After the news conference, the Governor was taken on a site tour to see the ongoing construction in the Elkins area.

"I was pleased to see firsthand how you have been carrying out my orders to get this project moving again," Governor Underwood said to Sam Beverage. "Working together we are carrying forward the wishes of an overwhelming majority of area residents who want to see completion of Corridor H."

A reception, sponsored by the Contractors Association of West Virginia, was held at Graceland on the campus of Davis & Elkins College immediately following the on-site tour.
