Officials Open Newest Section of Corridor H
Almost 200 people attended the celebration that the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) conducted on January 5, 2001 to open a recently completed section of Corridor H.

The 3.5-mile segment forms a bypass for US 219 that will greatly improve traffic flow and decrease congestion through the town of Elkins.

Former Governor Cecil H. Underwood, Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito and State Highway Engineer Joe Deneault addressed the audience and opened the road with the help from other state and local leaders. Others also participating in the festivities included Senator Walt Helmick, Senator Mike Ross, House Majority Leader Joe Martin, Delegate Bill Proudfoot and William Hartman, chairman of the Coalition for Corridor H.

In his comments, State Highway Engineer Joe Deneault announced that the Corridor H project is almost "halfway home." He then gave a progress report on the remaining 70 miles of roadway still to be constructed.

Deneault commended state and local leaders for their continued support of the road and praised Senator Robert C. Byrd for his strong encouragement and unfailing dedication to the Corridor H project. "We all own him a tremendous debt," said Deneault.
