Wardensville Planning Team Meets in November
The Community Planning Workshop Transportation Enhancement Program conducted a meeting in early November to discuss opportunities that Corridor H will afford to the town of Wardensville as well as ways to avoid potential liabilities to the community.

Members of the team stated that sidewalks should be safe, convenient and compliant with the American's with Disabilities Act. They expressed concerns about drainage in certain areas of Wardensville and also mentioned the need for ample lighting to create a safe environment for citizens.

The team then discussed placing welcome signs conveying the "character of the community" to visitors, signs providing a visual gateway from Corridor H, and tourism signs identifying fishing and recreation areas. They also explored the possibilities of expanding their recreational facilities to include fitness stations and additional walking trails.

State Highway Engineer Joe Deneault said, "We want the residents of Wardensville to put these enhancement funds to optimal use. This team is helping the town develop the best-possible enhancement plan that will be both appropriate and achievable."

For the next meeting, the designated facilitator for the team Pat Ford, of Whitney, Bailey, Cox and Magnani will provide successful examples of what other communities have done with similar grants. He will also provide examples of projects that did not succeed and how Wardensville can avoid the same pitfalls.

The Community Planning Workshop Transportation Enhancement Program will be conducting a community potluck dinner to facilitate communication with local residents on December 9, 2000 at 6:00 p.m. at the War Memorial Building in Wardensville. Local residents are encouraged to attend and information concerning the enhancement funds will be available.
