Town of Wardensville Identifies Primary Enhancement Projects
The Wardensville Community Improvement Team (WCIT) met on January 16, 2001 to identify primary projects that may be implemented with the $1 million allocation the Town of Wardensville received through the Corridor H Settlement Agreement. The agreement was accepted by 16 groups including Corridor H Alternatives and the West Virginia Division of Highways in February 2000 and was signed by a federal judge later that month. Since that time, the WCIT has been conducting monthly meetings to help identify the most cost-effective way to invest the allocation in their community.
The designated facilitator for the group, Pat Ford, of Whitney, Bailey, Cox and Magnani, and Jennifer Logan, a landscape architect also with Whitney, Bailey, Cox and Magnani, guided the residents as they narrowed their list of enhancement proposals to eight projects.
Collectively, the projects suggest resolving signage issues at the entrance to the town, revitalizing and redesigning historic areas, improving the existing drainage system, constructing new sidewalks, providing direct access to J.A. Hawkins Park and Pool and the Wardensville Welcome Center, and purchasing equipment to maintain the enhancement efforts.
State Highway Engineer Joe Deneault said, “The citizens of Wardensville have approached this project very thoughtfully and responsibly. The improvements they have proposed will help the town now and for years to come."
The next meeting of the WCIT will be at 7:00 p.m. on February 20, 2001 at the Wardensville Meeting Hall.
